This photo was taken by artist Rosemary Feit Covey at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is the process of getting a catheter inserted into my arm prior to my bi-monthly MRI. The catheter is much "fatter" than the type of needle used to draw blood, for example. It needs to be a wide needle so that the perfusion contrast agent can quickly be pumped into my blood and carried directly to my brain during my MRI. (This perfusion contrast agent is what ultimately reveals the current size of my visible brain tumor mass.)
